A / SYMMETRY
This photographic series explores the phenomenon of multiple realities morphing into a newly convoluted state.
Polarisation, fuelled by discrepancies in positions between entities, has become part of a new area. A single occurrence or event is often experienced and interpreted in vastly contrasting ways by individuals and groups alike. A possible in-between, serving as a mutual space of respect and exchange for different viewpoints, has largely vanished. The capacity to temporarily accommodate a new perspective in order to further inform conversations has become marginal.
What used to be acknowledged as a subjective opinion more often warps into a self-informed, self-perpetuating, self-echoing and self-validating, single truth. A single truth that appears to be mainly informed by instinct and emotions. A single truth that no longer qualifies as an informed opinion, excluding other opinions and for that matter the potential for further elaboration and investigation.
In many instances, the once assumed familiar has become the unfamiliar. Familiar entities have become unfamiliar and estranged. Hence, a widening gap in distance of perception consequently separating each side further apart. Individuals and groups alike have not only positioned themselves on either side of a spectrum in regards to most subject matters, but have further lost sight of one another.
